There was a lot of contemporary debate about how film violence creates real violence. Even though modern films are more graphic, the violence of the films shown here was more implied, enabling the viewer to fill in the details in their minds. In a sense, you could see how that could be more subverting.

How many people went to see, "Lady in a Cage" just to get a better look at Olivia de Havilland's rack?

Seeing these trailers remind me of going to the matinee when I was a kid. Most kids couldn't see the actual movies. We weren't allowed, so the trailers had to suffice. Some lucky kid would always see the whole flick somehow and give us a narrative. We didn't know, but the trailers were much better than the movies themselves. It was a lot of entertainment for a quarter.

As Connie Stevens once put it, "I sure had to polish a lot of turds when I was under contract to Warner Bros."
